A CLIMATE CHANGE, a salty Mediterranean sea, ... A biological crisis

What happened 6 million years ago at the Mediterranean Sea?
We interrogate fossil microrganism and molecules about this astonishing event.

Discover BIOCLIMA
BIOCLIMA is a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship project funded by the European Commission.

The main goal of the BIOCLIMA project is to explore the impact of climate change on the microbial biodiversity in semi-enclosed basins in order to decipher the ecosystem response to environmental crises in the geological past, at a temporal scale much longer than that of a human life. The Late Miocene Messinian Salinity Crisis (MSC) will serve as case study.
